Mis en Scene of Episode of Merlin
There is alot included within the apspect of Mis en Scene for this particular drama, due to the fact that it is a " costume drama" the entire wardrobe for the characters must be of the era it is supposed to be set in; this allows it to achieve verisimilitude. The crowd cheering in the background of the fighting connotes the acceptance of violence by the people there, and the view of fighting by society at the time, this suggests a very male dominated culture; patriarchy. The setting of the drama must also tie in with Mis en scene, this is so that the audience is able to read the preferred reading and that they understand that it is set in the past, The long shot on the castle adequately sets the scene and enables the audience to get a full feel for the setting. Within the hall when the knights are being introduced to the "Lady Morgana", a sense of binary opposition is created, as the masculinity of the knights bounces off the very feminine aspects given off by the female character. The social view of women at the time it is set is also reflected here, Lady Morgana only speaks when she is spoken to and is the first woman to appear on scene, her maid in the background also does'nt anything apart from to her mistress.
